Gennady Goncharov 11.09.1939 – 31.01.2025 Born in Moscow, he felt an early attraction to artistic creativity and, at the age of eight, began attending an art studio under the direction of B.V. Shcherbakov. Gennadiy Goncharov received a professional training in painting at the studio of A.P.Faydysh-Krandievski and in the master-class of professor V.K.Zamkov of Moscow High Artistic School, former Stroganov School. Since 1967 he has been an illustrator for a popular science journal "Himiya I Zhizn" ("Chemistry and Life") and has also worked for a number of other leading journals and magazines of Russia. Since 1975 he is a member of the Moscow Committee of Graphic Artists on Malaya Gruzinskaya Street. From 1986 to 1990 he has been a head of the easel graphics section of this committee, taking part in annual summary exhibitions. Gennady Goncharov illustrated many books published by such publishing houses as "Mysl'" ("Thought"), "Nauka" ("Science"), "Detskaya Literatura" ("Children Literature"), "Hudojestvennaya Literatura" ("Fiction") and some others. He worked as a restorer for a number of eparchies of Russian Orthodox Church: Moscow eparchy (in Sergiev Posad), Ivanovo eparchy (Ivanovo Cathedral), Perm eparchy (in Kungur and Solikamsk), Tambov eparchy (in Pichaevo), Orel eparchy (in Livny). Participated in the action "Russian collection of the end of XX century" (1994-1996). This action supported the establishment of M'ARS (the Modern Arts Museum) in Moscow, the first private museum in Russia. Participated in the project "The World of Sensual Things in Pictures of the End of XX Century" based on Jan Amos Komensky's book "Orbus pictus sensualis" ("Visible world in pictures"), 1658. He was a member of the Union of Artists of Russia under the UNESCO International Federation of Artists. Gennady Goncharov worked in the composition painting genre, the style of romantic conceptualism. He primarily works in pencil. Some Gennady Goncharov's paintings are in M'ARS museum collection as well as in private collection in Russia, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Austria, Great Britain, Greece, Poland, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, USA, Finland, and Argentina. Gennady Goncharov speaks about himself: "I'm giving you some thoughts about my so called biography or graphics. It is not the collection of facts of my life, it would be too simple - just get some truth, some tales and here is a number of events that have neither meaning, nor significance (while the purpose is most significant). Besides, while the so-called fact is not realized, it is as if it were absent, it is just a tale, a show. Thus, we need something different: like in weaving a base is needed, here we need sence. Therefore I think that I am not an artist. It is not a slip of tongue. I am neither a bad artist, nor a good artist or a very good artist. I am no artist. What I observe is not life as landscapes with cows and mood, but the life of mind and perception. A picture can appear or not and it does not matter. As it does not in every real life or real biography which has no beginning and no end, they just continue. There is nothing between the life and the man, to be more precise, there is a gap and one should see something in it: either God or concsiousness" A brief list of exhibitions: 1973 - Personal exhibition on Malaya Gruzinskaya, Moscow 1975 - Group exhibition of book artists in Central House of Artistic Workers, Moscow 1976 - Group exhibition in Central House of Artistic Workers, Moscow 1978 - Group exhibition in Central House of Artistic Workers, Moscow 1979 - Easel graphics on Malaya Gruzinskaya, Moscow 1980 - Personal exhibition on Malaya Gruzinskaya, Moscow 1980 - Group exhibition of Moscow Branch of The Artists Union, Moscow 1982 - Personal exhibition on Malaya Gruzinskaya, Moscow 1985 - Personal exhibition on Malaya Gruzinskaya, Moscow 1991 - Group exhibition of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists in Manege, Moscow 1993 - Group exhibition in Central House of Painters, Moscow 1994 - Personal exhibition of the M'ARS gallery, Moscow 1994-95 - Russian collection of XX century - M'ARS gallery, Moscow 1996 - Group exhibition of the pencil artists of the M'ARS gallery, Mainz, Germany 1997 - "The Golden Egg" - artists of the "Himiya I Zhizn'" journal, Moscow 1997 - "The World of Sensual Things in Pictures", Pushkin Museum, Moscow 1998 - The project "Major's matchmaking" of the S'ART gallery in Manege, Moscow 2000 - Personal exhibition of the M'ARS gallery, Moscow 2001 - Summer seasons on Karetniy, Moscow 2002 - Group exhibition "30 Years Anniversary of the Exhibition in the Beekeeping pavilion" in the Modern Arts Museum, Moscow 2004 - Group Exhibition in Moscow in TSDH (Central House of Artists). 2005 - State Polytechnic Museum "EVERYTHING in the World is Relative" Exhibition of Russian graphic artists dedicated to the 100th anniversary of A.
